Gundagai will offer the richest prizemoney race in its history and it won’t be for the iconic Snake Gully Cup.
Instead, a maiden on Snake Gully Cup day will carry an additional $100,000 bonus if the winner is qualified through the Inglis sales.
Gundagai has two maidens on cup day, Friday, November 13, including a Super Maiden already worth $50,000.
If the winning horse is eligible it will be a first prize money return of $122,000.
First prizemoney for the Snake Gully Cup is $48,000 in a total of $100,000 meaning the Inglis maiden will be one of the richest lower class races in country NSW.
Gundagai-Adelong Race Club secretary Michael Heath announced the incentive in the lead-up to Sunday’s meeting which honours the memory of some of the stalwarts of racing in the town.
“It’s a huge bonus which we are pleased to attach to the Snake Gully Cup meeting,” he said.
“It will help ensure a quality field and I’m sure many of the major stables will aim a horse for it and hopefully bring another for one of the feature races.
“It’s such a great two-day carnival and the bonus is another incentive for owners and trainers.
“We are also looking to incorporate a few other ideas we have in place leading into the meeting.”
Some of the major stables in Australia have previously targeted super maidens at country tracks and given the bonus race falls on Snake Gully Cup day it will also attract plenty of attention.
